VILNIUS, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The governments of Lithuania and Poland consider holding a joint meeting early next year to take bilateral cooperation to the next level, Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said here on Tuesday after meeting his Polish counterpart, Mateusz Morawiecki.
"We agreed to take our cooperation to the next level and I am pleased that the Polish prime minister has welcomed the possibility of holding a joint government meeting early next year," Skvernelis said at a joint press conference with Morawiecki.
According to Skvernelis, this would be a good opportunity to reflect on the achievements and outline future directions for bilateral relations.
"We are also inviting Lithuanian companies to invest in Poland, while bilateral relations are becoming stronger as we have a similar approach to many things in Europe," said Morawiecki.
The two leaders discussed joint energy and transport projects, regional security policy issues and other topical aspects of the European Union's (EU) agenda.
Intergovernmental relations are particularly good, said Skvernelis, thanking Morawiecki for his personal contribution to the strengthening of the two countries' strategic partnership, which he described as Lithuania's key foreign policy priority.
"Poland's success is our success. That is why we will work together to ensure that the interests of the region are represented in the EU and NATO," Skvernelis was quoted as saying in a statement released by his office.
