BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Chen Xi on Tuesday underscored the need to promote people's science literacy and foster the capacity for innovation for the country's development.
Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the CPC Central Committee Organization Department, made the remarks when taking part in an event in Beijing marking the National Science Day.
He called for efforts to make scientific knowledge widely attainable, promote the spirit of science, disseminate scientific ideas and advocate scientific methods to improve science literacy.
Around 24,000 science promotion activities will be held nationwide from Sept. 14 to Sept. 20 to mark this year's National Science Day.
