BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi will pay an official visit to China on Sept. 19-23 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
The following is a profile of Abdul-Mahdi.
Abdul-Mahdi, a Shiite Muslim, was born in Baghdad province in 1942. He obtained a master's degree in political science from the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris (which was absorbed by France's National School of Administration in 2002), and a master's degree in political economy from the University of Poitiers in France.
He was a member of the former Ba'ath party in Iraq, and then a member of the Iraqi Communist Party. He joined the founding of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq.
After the Iraqi war ended in 2003, Abdul-Mahdi served as a member of the Iraqi Interim Governing Council, finance minister, vice president, and oil minister. He was sworn in as Iraqi prime minister on Oct. 25, 2018.
Abdul-Mahdi is friendly towards China and attaches great importance to developing relations with China. He has visited China many times since he took public office.
