WELLINGTON, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC) launched a trilingual nature app that combines Maori, Chinese and English on Wednesday.

"We are very excited to see this trilingual app launch in Tāmaki Makaurau, a platform which reflects the diverse and multicultural identity of our region, where more than 150 languages are spoken," said ATEED General Manager Destination Steve Armitage.

The app is called Pūkete Taiao o Tāmaki Makaurau in Maori, meaning the language of nature in Auckland.

The new version would replace the old one released in 2016, helping non-Maori speakers feel more confident with pronunciation of place names, spaces and species in Auckland, Nick Hirst, a DOC spokeperson told Xinhua.

DOC, with the support of Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development (ATEED), launched the updated app with three languages which added an enhanced destination experience with an interactive map and species information of their Maori name and pictures.

The relaunch coincided with Maori Language Week, Conservation Week and Chinese Language Week which took place from Sept. 9.
