TRIPOLI, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Libya's east-based rebel army announced Thursday that its airstrikes on the southern part of the capital Tripoli have killed more than 14 of the rival UN-backed government forces.
The army has also destroyed military vehicles belonging to the government forces, according to the army's spokesman Ahmad al-Mismari.
A military source said the army's air force had launched 30 airstrikes in and around Tripoli in 48 hours, targeting the government forces.
The east-based army General Khalifa Haftar has been leading a military campaign since early April to take over Tripoli from the government. The capital city is home to nearly 1.2 million people
Libya has been mired in violence and political instability ever since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
