China is the largest trading partner of Romania in Asia and one of the most important economic partners of the country in the world, says the Romanian prime minister.

BUCHAREST, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dancila on Thursday assured the Chinese business representatives that her country is eager to continue the dialogue of mutually beneficial economic projects and sectoral cooperation with China.

Dancila made the remarks at the National Day reception held at the Chinese Embassy in Romania.

"The inter-human exchanges, as well as those in the fields of business, tourism, culture, youth and academy between Romania and China are an essential pillar to deepen the very important bilateral relations for Romania," said the prime minister, noting that "China is the largest trading partner of Romania in Asia and one of the most important economic partners of the country in the world."

Chinese Ambassador, Jiang Yu, spoke highly of the time-honored Sino-Romanian friendship, calling on both sides to cherish and safeguard this relationship.

"We all have a historical responsibility to carry it forward, as it is in the fundamental and long-term interest of our two countries to strengthen an all-round partnership of friendly cooperation," Jiang said.

She called on the Romanian authorities to provide a fair, equitable and non-discriminatory business environment for all foreign companies in Romania.

Emphasizing that "normal businesses must not be held hostage to political motivations," Jiang said "the investment of Chinese companies is a vote of confidence in the future of Romania," and hoped that "their legitimate rights and interests are fully protected."

The National Day reception held by the Chinese Embassy also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Ample Partnership of Friendship and Cooperation between China and Romania.

Romanian high level officials and members of the Diplomatic Corps in Romania, as well as representatives of Chinese-funded companies, overseas Chinese communities and Chinese students attended the reception.
