KAMPALA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's top badminton player Brian Kasirye is targeting a good performance at the 2019 BWF World Junior Championships scheduled to take place on Sept. 30-Oct. 13 in Russia.
"I am very prepared for this Championships because I want to play against some of the best junior players in the world. I want to put up a better show than I did at the World Junior Championships in Canada last year where I lost in the first round," Kasirye told Xinhua on Friday.
The 19-year-old Kasirye said he's determined to perform well in his last year in the juniors.
Kasirye missed the All Africa Senior Championship and the Uganda International Championship as he was recovering from a knee surgery.
The other members on Uganda's team include Tracy Naluwooza, Husnah Kobugabe and Fadilah Shamika.
Simon Mugabi, the chief executive of Uganda Badminton Association said international tournaments are critical in developing the game in the country.
"Facing players from other continents at the World Junior Championships will be good exposure for our players," Mugabi said.
Early this month Uganda won a bronze medal in the women's badminton doubles at the All Africa Games in Morocco.
