JAKARTA, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's East Java province regency of Banyuwangi will resume the annual international Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen (TsBI) from September 25 to 28, featuring cyclists from 23 countries and regions.

The race of the year will cover a total of 520.6 kilometers in four phases with the last route the most challenging one along the slope of Mount Ijen.

"The fourth route is quite challenging as the cyclists have to race steeply upward 129.9 kilometers from Purwoharjo to Mount Ijen area," Head of Banyuwangi Youths and Sports Office Wawan Yadmadi said on Tuesday.

At least 14 teams have been registered to take part in the 2.2 cycling race sanctioned by the sport's world governing body of Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), he said.

Among them were UKYO and KINAN from Japan, Taiyuan Miogee Cycling Team from China, St. George Continental from Australia and Team Sapura from Malaysia. They had good records in several series of 2019 UCI Asia Tour.

The annual Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen was initiated in 2012.
