ALGIERS, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- An Algerian Military Court on Wednesday sentenced to 15 years in prison two former intelligence chiefs, a brother of ousted president and a political party leader, for "conspiring against the army."
The two ex-intelligence chiefs, Mohamed Median and Bachir Tartarg, the former president's brother, Said Bouteflika, and Labor Party leader Louisa Hanoune, were arrested in May, weeks after mass protests broke out to demand the departure of the ruling elite, said state-run ENTV channel, quoting a statement of the Military Court of Blida province, 50 km southwest Algiers.
Algerians have been protesting since Feb. 22 across the country to demand the departure of the regime.
Meanwhile, the military institution pledged to work for meeting the people's aspirations, as a series of arrests were launched against several prominent state and military officials as well as businessmen, who are prosecuted over corruption charges.
