BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong is at a critical moment to reclaim law and order. However, it seems that some U.S. lawmakers are trying to stand in the way.

In an apparent move to fan flames of disorder in Hong Kong, two U.S. congressional committees on Wednesday voted to advance the deeply flawed Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, citing groundless accusations about the "loss of freedom" and "human rights" issue in Hong Kong.

By smearing China to score cheap political gains as usual, these politicians are turning a blind eye to the undeniable facts that China has in the past 22 years unswervingly upheld its commitments to the Basic Law with an effective implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle and a high degree of autonomy in Hong Kong.

International studies have repeatedly shown that the rights and freedoms enjoyed by Hong Kong residents have been fully protected in accordance with the law.

According to the Canadian Fraser Institute's latest Human Freedom Index, Hong Kong ranks third in the world, far better than that of the United States, which ranks 17th.

The U.S. step came as Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam and her team were about to hold the first community dialogue on Thursday to solve the months-long unrest in the Asian financial hub.

Knowing that their approval of the bill would incite separatists and rioters to continue wreaking havoc in Hong Kong, those U.S. lawmakers like U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Marco Rubio are sabotaging the HKSAR government's efforts to restore order and rebuild unity in the Hong Kong society.

Since the outbreak of unrest in Hong Kong, some U.S. politicians, while turning a blind eye to the perpetrators of violence in Hong Kong, have used every chance they can get to pin the blames on the HKSAR government and the Hong Kong police force, who have simply been doing their job to maintain order and the rule of law in Hong Kong.

The Pelosis and Rubios have overestimated their ability to stoke anti-China sentiment in the international community. Their cheers and applauds for the outrageous acts of rioters in Hong Kong, which have betrayed their ill intention against China, will ultimately fail.

And while they are faking a worried look over the welfare of people in Hong Kong, perhaps these elected U.S. officials should make a better use of their time to serve the American people.
