COPENHAGEN, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Global bioscience ingredients company Chr. Hansen announced Wednesday in a press release that it had signed an agreement with Better Energy, the owner of several large solar parks across Denmark.

The agreement, which runs for 10 years, ensures that Chr. Hansen's need for electricity will be entirely covered by renewable energy sources.

"We want to make a positive contribution to the green transition. That is why we have decided to invest in new photovoltaic systems so that our good bacteria and natural colors have a green footprint, both at the customer's home and in Denmark, where some of our largest factories are located," the company's sustainability director Annemarie Meisling said in the press release.

The agreement will require Better Energy to develop two brand-new solar parks and subsequently sell the produced energy to Chr. Hansen at a fixed, agreed price.

The new plants will produce 54,367 MWh of electricity each year, which corresponds to the annual need of 15,000 Danish households, equivalent to Chr. Hansen's annual energy demand.

Better Energy said the new plants will be completed by April 2020.

Chr. Hansen is a Hoersholm-based company that develops natural solutions for the food, nutritional, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries.
