DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian authorities on Friday warned public executive directors across the country against misusing the 82 billion Tanzanian shillings (about 36 million U.S. dollars) budget for running the forthcoming civic polls.
Selemani Jafo, the Minister of State in the President's Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government, said the budget allocated to run the civic polls slated for Nov. 24 should not be used for financing other activities.
"The government has released that amount of money for running the civic elections. Any district or regional executive director that will use the money for funding other activities other than the polls will face the music," Jafo said when he opened a working meeting for district and regional executive directors in the capital Dodoma.
At the same time, Jafo warned that any district or regional executive director that will be implicated in sabotaging the elections will be answerable.
On Sept. 13, Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa warned people against involvement in corrupt practices during the civic elections.
Adjourning the National Assembly's two-week meeting in the capital Dodoma, the premier also warned that people should not dare cause chaos during the civic polls.
Majaliwa said stakeholders in the civic polls from political parties, government institutions and non-governmental organizations should read and understand the polls regulations.
In April, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Palamagamba Kabudi, warned individuals and political parties against involvement in electoral fraud in the November civic polls and general elections in 2020.
Kabudi urged the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau to deal accordingly with individuals or political parties implicated in electoral fraud.
