WARSAW, Oct.8 (Xinhua) -- The Pole Hubert Hurkacz surprisingly prevailed over Gael Monfils in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 (1) in the second round of the Shanghai Masters on Tuesday. The player called "Hubi" beat the Frenchman for the first time in his career.
The 22-year-old made a stunning start, converting his first break point. He didn't drop his serve and broke the favorite for the second time to see an easy first set win.
After the first set, the encounter was delayed for one and a half hour due to the rainy weather.
When they came back, Monfils turned the pace, finding his feet. Both players served very well, as they each fired six aces. In the tie-break the Pole was dominant, winning six consecutive points and sealed his well-deserved victory.
Hurkacz took revenge on Monfils as he lost to the Frenchman in Montreal earlier this year.
