TEHRAN, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday that the Iranian nation has thwarted the U.S. sanction pressures with their "sacrifices."

Despite the "unprecedented hardship and enmities against Iran," there have been improvements in Iran's major economic indicators recently, Rouhani was quoted by official IRNA news agency as saying.

He urged Washington to quit its maximum pressure campaign which has failed so far.

"Although the enemy of Iran does not want to confess, they have accepted that their maximum pressure campaign against Iran has failed and they have to give it up," Rouhani said.

Iran's First Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri also said Tuesday that, despite U.S. tough sanctions against the country, the Islamic republic's economy is moving toward stability.

"Reports indicate that Iran's macroeconomic indicators are improving," Jahangiri was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Last week, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that the U.S. "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran is a broken-down policy that has failed to achieve its goals.

"The Americans illusioned that they will bring Iran to its knees by focusing on maximum pressure, particularly through economic sanctions," Khamenei said, adding that "however, they themselves faced problems and troubles."

The U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the landmark Iranian nuclear deal last year and imposed unprecedented economic and political sanctions on the Islamic republic.
