DAMASCUS, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A Syrian Kurdish lawmaker on Thursday urged the Syrian government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to hold dialogues for solution to the Turkish military campaign in northern Syria.

Omar Ossi, a Syrian Kurdish parliamentarian, was cited by the pro-government al-Watan newspaper as saying that the SDF leaders should send a delegation with full powers to Damascus to reach plans for confronting the Turkish offensive on Kurdish-controlled areas in northern Syria.

"The atmosphere is positive between both sides and such atmosphere will be conducive to continuing the dialogue which has been suspended for months," he noted.

Communication is now ongoing to put the differences aside in order to face the Turkish attack, Ossi said, adding the current priority is to face the Turkish attack.

A day earlier, Turkey announced the beginning of its long-threatened military campaign in northern Syria to eliminate the Kurdish forces of the SDF and its wider umbrella of the People's Protection Units (YPG), which are deemed by Ankara as separatists and terrorists.

The Turkish operation started after the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from certain areas in northern Syria, which was seen as a sign of abandoning the Kurdish forces as they have been Washington's allies on the ground in Syria.

The Saudi-funded Al Arabiya TV said the Turkish artillery had hit 181 Kurdish targets in the eastern Euphrates region since the beginning of the military operation on Wednesday while the pro-rebel Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 20 people were killed or wounded in the Turkish shelling.

While condemning the Turkish operation as a blatant violation of international law and the UN charters pertaining to respecting the sovereignty of Syria, the Syrian government blamed the Kurdish forces for trying to achieve self-rule with the help of the United States outside the umbrella of the Syrian government.
