BEIRUT, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun said on Thursday that the U.S. sanctions against several Lebanese banks are exerting financial pressure on Lebanon.

"The Lebanese banking sector and the overall economic situation are impacted by the sanctions despite the commitment of Lebanese banks to all international legislations and rules," said Aoun during his meeting with visiting UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo.

Aoun also expressed his concerns about the Turkish military campaign in northern Syria, saying it may cause a longer stay for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

"We are concerned about the impact of these attacks on the unity of Syria and on a longer presence of Syrian refugees in Lebanon," he said.

For her part, DiCarlo renewed the appreciation of the international community for Lebanon's efforts in hosting a big number of Syrian refugees.
