TRIPOLI, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Libya's eastern-based House of Representatives on Thursday condemned Turkey's military operation in northern Syria.
"The Libyan House of Representatives condemns in the strongest terms the brutal Turkish attack on Syrian territory by the entry of Turkish military forces to northern Syria, a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions," the parliament said in a statement.
The statement demanded that the United Nations Security Council intervene immediately to "stop this aggression and quickly move to protect the Syrian people from this blatant aggression."
It also called on the Arab League to stand against the Turkish operation during the league's emergency meeting scheduled on Oct. 12.
Turkey launched on Wednesday a military incursion into northeastern Syria in order to create a "safe zone" that would push Kurdish militia away from its border and eventually allow the repatriation of up to 2 million Syrian refugees.
