TEHRAN, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Two separate explosions hit an Iranian oil tanker in the Red Sea 60 miles off Saudi Arabia's Jeddah port city on Friday morning, official IRNA news agency reported.
The explosions, possibly caused by the "missile strikes," caused serious damage to the vessel and oil is spilling to the sea, the report said.
The oil tanker, named the SABITY, belongs to National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC).
According to a statement by NITC, the tanker is currently in a stable condition and none of the crew members was hurt in the explosions.
Despite some reports, no fire eruption has taken place in the tanker and the situation is under the control of the crew, it said.
Technical experts are currently investigating the cause of the incident, it added.
