NAIROBI, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- DPO group, an African payment services provider, is exploring a partnership with Alipay that will boost China-Africa trade, its CEO said on Friday.
Eran Feinstein, CEO of DPO Group told Xinhua in Nairobi that under the proposed collaboration, DPO will enable Alipay to be locally available in Africa.
"The ultimate goal is to ensure that African consumers will be able to connect and pay for goods from Alibaba online store using their local currencies which will lower the cost of Sino-Africa trade," Feinstein said when DPO group inked a deal with the East African banking group Diamond Trust Bank.
DPO which currently has a presence in 18 African countries, has developed a virtual card that contains a digital account that can be used worldwide.
Feinstein said that Alipay's presence in Africa will ensure that consumers and merchants are seamlessly connected to the world's largest digital markets.
"This will offer consumers a wide variety of goods and services from across the world," he added.
Feinstein said that currently, global payments services are moving to Africa to tap the growing opportunities in the financial services sector.
