BANGKOK, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Thai police on Friday announced that Thai authorities have arrested a Vietnamese cryptocurrency suspect at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport for allegedly scamming many Thais into believing they could make purchases of digital currency called OneCoin instead of the Thai baht.
Police said OneCoin was a fake digital currency.
Pol Lt Gen Sompong Chingduang, commander of the Thai Immigration Bureau, said the Vietnamese suspect was on the international criminal blacklist when he tried to leave Thailand on Oct. 2.
"Ngoc (the suspect)'s passport raised alarms as his facial appearance bore physical resemblance to the suspect sought by Vietnamese and Thai authorities," said Sompong. "Therefore we at the Immigration conducted a biometric scan on Ngoc. After that, Ngoc admitted to police that he was the scammer for OneCoin.
Ngoc confessed to working with seven other fraudsters, including Thai and Vietnamese, in deceiving people to invest in OneCoin, said Sompong.
