UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has informed the General Assembly of his intention to appoint Fatoumata Ndiaye of Senegal as the new undersecretary-general for internal oversight services for a five-year non-renewable term, said his press office on Friday.
Ndiaye was most recently deputy chief of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF). Prior to this role, she served as UNICEF's director of internal audit and investigations, and head of the Internal Audit Division of the UN Office of Internal Oversight.
Ndiaye brings over 24 years of knowledge and hands-on experience in audit, investigations and evaluation, coupled with overseeing and coordinating human resources, finance, budget, information technology and administrative services and operations, said the press office.
The appointment of a UN undersecretary-general needs the approval of the General Assembly. Undersecretary-generals are the third highest in ranks in the United Nations, after the secretary-general and the deputy secretary-general.
