WARSAW, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Brazil prevailed over Poland 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 16-25, 15-11) at FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup on Sunday in Hiroshima, Japan.
The team coached by Renan Dal Zotto strengthened their position at the top, sealing their ninth consecutive victory with two games remaining.
The "Canarinhos" wanted to take revenge on Poland, as they lost against Vital Heynen's side in the World Cup final a year ago. However, the world champions got off to a perfect start, winning the opening period 25-19.
The Polish players had a huge chance to make it 2-0 in the second set, but the Brazilians recovered from a slow start. In the crucial moment, they set up a killing block on Maciej Muzaj, turning the course of the match into their favor.
Brazil showed the quality, imposing their dominance in the tie-break. In the early stage of the last part, Poland made few unforced errors and was unable to cut the deficit, losing 11-15.
Alan Souza scored game-high 27 points, while Brazil had some problems to stop Maciej Muzaj and Wilfredo Leon, as they each scored 17 for Poland.
Renato Dal Zotto's players still sit on the top after nine consecutive victories. Poland is the second with four points less.
