JAKARTA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- As many as 31,000 personnel from the Indonesian police and military will be deployed to secure landmarks across the capital during President Joko Widodo's swearing-in for his second term on Oct. 20, Jakarta Police spokesman Argo Yuwono said on Tuesday.

The police, Yuwono added that, were also preparing security efforts for country leaders and officials from other countries who will attend the inauguration of Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin in the parliament building in Central Jakarta.

A number of foreign leaders, including Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan, Malaysia Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, will attend the ceremony.

"We will guard them until they arrive the parliament building, where the inauguration takes place," the police spokesman said.

Jakarta Police Chief Gatot Eddy Pramono has said that he will not issue permit for people who want to hold any demonstration in Jakarta from Tuesday until Sunday.

In late September, massive student protests erupted in Jakarta and other cities over the passing of controversial bills into laws by the parliament. Chief Security Minister Wiranto was stabbed twice last Thursday by a militant linked to the Islamic State group during a visit to an Islamic school in Banten province.

President Widodo, better known as Jokowi, won the presidential election in April after beating his challenger Prabowo Subianto, a former army general.
