BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- "Legend of Deification," a new animated film by the same studio that produced this year's smash hit "Ne Zha," is set for release during the upcoming Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on Jan. 25, 2020.
A subversive adaptation of the protagonist's classic image being the head of all gods in Chinese literary works, the film deals with the emotional struggles of the heavenly figure Jiang Ziya as a regular human being.
The film, directed by Cheng Teng, an up-and-coming young animation director, has been in production for four years.
Jiang Ziya is a Chinese mythological sage based on a real historical figure who helped kings of Zhou overthrow the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 B.C.). In mythology, he is the fellow apprentice of Ne Zha's master.
