CHONGQING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The total length of operational urban rail transit in China will reach 6,600 kilometers by the end of 2019, according to the China Energy Conservation Association (CECA).

As of September, 39 Chinese cities have had urban rail transit systems in operation, with the total length exceeding 6,330 kilometers.

In 2018, a total of 46 Chinese cities had 202 rail lines under construction.

The overall energy consumption of rail transit will accordingly increase with more rail lines put into operation, said Jiang Yi, director of the CECA. China has stepped up efforts to seek solutions to rising energy consumption of rail transit.
