BANGKOK, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's House of Representatives on Thursday overwhelmingly approved an executive decree on transfers of the King's Guard personnel and funds to King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
Some 376 government and opposition MPs voted for the executive decree, compared to 70 votes against it.
The decree was designed to transfer the personnel and funds earlier provided for the First Infantry Regiment and the Eleventh Infantry Regiment, both of which are officially deemed as the King's Guard, so that they get under direct command of the monarch, who rose to the throne in late 2016.
The Bangkok-based regiments were earlier subject to the army's First Infantry Division.
Just before the voting in parliament, Deputy Defense Minister Chaicharn Changmongkol said the executive decree was considered "most urgent and unavoidable" to render consistent, enhanced efficiency in the King's Guard duties to provide maximum safety measures for the monarch and royal family.
