RIGA, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in Riga on Thursday, starting the first official visit ever made by an Egyptian foreign minister to Latvia.
According to the Latvian Foreign Ministry, bilateral economic and political relations will be high on the visit's agenda.
Shoukry's meeting with his Latvian counterpart Edgars Rinkevics focused on possibilities to deepen economic and political contacts, developments in the Middle East, as well as dialogue between the European Union (EU) and Egypt.
While discussing the situation in Egypt and the region, Rinkevics voiced support for stepping up the EU-Egypt dialogue.
The Egyptian foreign minister met also with Latvian President Egils Levits, who spoke appreciatively of Latvian-Egyptian political relations and trade dynamic, as well as stressed the necessity to promote economic exchange, cooperation in culture and higher education.
President Levits also called on Egypt to consider opening an embassy in Riga. Enditem
