THE HAGUE, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Vincent Kipchumba won the 44th edition of the Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday.
The 29-year-old Kenyan finished the 42.195-kilometer race in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam in two hours, five minutes and nine seconds. Just before the entrance in the stadium, Kipchumba ran away from Ethiopian Solomon Deksisa, who ended second in 2:05:16.
Kenya's Elisha Rotich finished third in 2:05:18. Last year's course record of Lawrence Cherono (2:04:06) remained intact.
Ethiopian Degitu Azimeraw ran a track record for women with 2:19:26. She bettered the former track record of Meseret Hailu, 2:21:09 in 2012. Tigist Girma (2:19:52) and Azmera Gebru (2:20:48) completed the Ethiopian podium.
