MOSCOW, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his German counterpart Heiko Maas have discussed the Syrian situation during a phone call on Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
During the conversation, "an exchange of views was held on the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, in particular, in light of the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 22 in Sochi and the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Russia and Turkey," the ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, the parties agreed that one of the crucial steps to resolving the crisis in the war-torn country could be the beginning of the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee under the UN auspices.
