JERUSALEM, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Israeli police said on Wednesday that they shot a Palestinian woman after she attempted to stab Israeli troops in the West Bank city of Hebron.
Police Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said in a statement that the suspect "attempted to attack a Border Police officer with a knife" outside a holy site known as Ibrahimi Mosque by Muslims and as "the Cave of the Patriarchs" to Jews.
Border Policemen at the site shot her and badly wounded her.
She sustained critical injuries and received medical care at the site before taken to a hospital, according to Israeli authorities.
No Israelis were injured.
"The area is closed off and heightened security continues in the area," said Rosenfeld.
Around 60 Israelis were killed in stabbing, shooting, and car-ramming attacks over the past four years. During the same period, Israeli forces have killed at least 260 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
