BAGHDAD, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Two mortar rounds landed on Wednesday night in the perimeter of the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, an Iraqi police source said.
The two rounds rocked the heavily fortified Green Zone with sirens heard in the area, a source from the Interior Ministry told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
There is no immediate report about casualties, the source said.
Iraqi militias frequently targeted the Green Zone where the U.S. embassy and some of the Iraqi government offices are located.
The attack came amid ongoing demonstration across Iraq which demands comprehensive reform, accountability for corrupt officials, improvement of public services and job opportunities.
