KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production fell 2.4 percent in September from the same month of the preceding year, official data showed Thursday.
Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement, the biggest drag came from mining index which slumped 14.4 percent year-on-year.
This was followed by water supply which dropped 2.8 percent; agriculture, forestry and fishing that decreased by 1.1 percent; manufacturing which tumbled 1 percent.
The index of electricity and gas supply, however, rose 1.3 percent.
Due to the declines of most indices, the PPI fell 2.1 percent in the third quarter.
