For about 10 minutes, masked rioters smashed the glass doors, hurled firebombs into the lobby and shattered the glass walls. They spray-painted derogatory words on the glass walls and outer walls of the building.

The violent acts of the black-clad rioters have once again shown that only by stopping violence in accordance with the law would social order and public security be restored in Hong Kong, said the bureau's head.

HONG KONG, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Rioters vandalized the office building of Xinhua News Agency in Hong Kong Saturday afternoon, dismantling security facilities and throwing firebombs into the lobby.

At about 5:20 p.m. local time, a group of rioters gathered at the entrance of the office building of the agency's Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau in Wan Chai.

For about 10 minutes, masked rioters smashed the glass doors, hurled firebombs into the lobby and shattered the glass walls. They spray-painted derogatory words on the glass walls and outer walls of the building.

Several rioters entered the building and threw paint bombs into the lobby, while some others set a fire in front of the building.

A couple of windows on the second and third floors were also damaged.

The vandalism took place after a large group of protesters was dispersed by the police following an unlawful assembly in Hong Kong Island. The rioters went on a rampage, blocking roads and vandalizing shops in the areas of Wanchai and Causeway Bay.

The head of the Xinhua's Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau has strongly condemned the barbaric acts and expressed outrage over the violence, who hoped the Hong Kong police would make a serious investigation into the matter and bring the rioters to justice.

The violent acts of the black-clad rioters have once again shown that only by stopping violence in accordance with the law would social order and public security be restored in Hong Kong, said the bureau's head.
