TUNIS, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia's election regulator announced at a press conference on Friday the final results of the Oct. 6 parliamentary elections.
"Tunisia's Islamist party Ennahdha (Renaissance) came in the lead with 52 out of a total 217 seats in the new Assembly of People's Representatives (parliament)," said Nabil Bafoun, president of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE).
The Heart of Tunisia party ranked second with 38 seats, ahead of the Democratic Current party's 22 seats.
The Dignity Coalition party came fourth with 21 seats, followed by the Free Destourian Party with 17 seats.
The People's Movement ranked sixth with 15 seats while Tahya Tounes (Long live Tunisia), the party of the current Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, followed with 14 seats.
From the eighth position, political parties, coalitions and independent lists won less than or equal to four seats.
"Out of a total of over 7 million registered voters, about 3 million, voted in the ballot," the ISIE chief said.
ISIE registered 49,704 null votes and 26,403 blank ones.
