LONDON, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- People across parts of England and Wales woke up to a blanket of snow on Thursday morning, with British police warning motorists to avoid driving amid "treacherous conditions."

Heavy snow has left vehicles stranded and some roads impassable in mid and south Wales.

Police in Ystradgynlais, in southwest Powys, Wales, warned of icy roads with vehicles stuck in many locations.

Temperatures plummeted on Wednesday night as forecasters warned half a month's rain could fall in a day on already flood-hit areas.

A Met Office warning for snow was issued for half of 22 counties in Wales, but ended at 1000 GMT on Thursday. A second yellow warning for rain will stay in place in 13 counties until 2300 GMT in the day.

Photographs and videos posted on social media showed east Gloucestershire, parts of Wiltshire, Bath and South Wales covered in a few centimetres of snow.

The UK experienced its coldest autumn night of the year on Wednesday night and east Gloucestershire, parts of Wiltshire and south Wales were pictured blanketed in snow on Thursday morning.
