RIGA, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Three arrests have been made in Latvia this week in connection with a probe into illegal arms trade in African countries, violations of international sanctions and money laundering, the Latvian State Security Service said on Friday.
The three suspects were detained on Wednesday and Thursday after an investigation launched by the State Security Service in February 2018.
During the probe, the State Security Service conducted five warranted searches in various locations in Riga and its area, seizing evidence like documents and computers.
Information obtained in the investigation showed that the group of suspects had been supplying large amounts of weapons to African countries under sanctions imposed by the UN and the European Union (EU).
The money earned from the illegal trade was later laundered.
Latvian law enforcement authorities are not giving more detailed information about the case to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. Enditem
