CHENGDU, China, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Five players scored double-digits as Sichuan Blue Whale beat Guangzhou Loong Lions 104-99 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league here on Saturday.
After a tied first quarter, Sichuan opened fire beyond the arc in the second quarter and extend the advantage to around 20 points midway. But Andrew Nicholson and Zheng Zhun joined hands to engine an 10-0 run during the final phase of the second quarter, helping Guangzhou to cut the deficit to 8 points.
From the third quarter, Guangzhou picked up the defense to shut down Courtney Fortson of Sichuan and turned the table 60-61 with a fast-break from Marcus Georges-Hunt.
The host team came from behind in the opening minutes of the final quarter to lead 92-89 thanks to two three-pointers from Chen Chen and Li Yuanyu. Although Guangzhou tried hard in the last minutes of the game, Sichuan had a more effective offensive to seal the victory.
Hunt earned a game-high 35 points. Fortson of Sichuan got a team-high 34 points, following by Chen Chen with 23 points.
