HARBIN, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Customs in the city of Harbin in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province intercepted a ivory figure statue weighing 778 grams, customs officers said.

The item was intercepted in a package sent from Spain, according to the customs office of Bingcheng, under Harbin customs.

Bingcheng customs office has seized over 2.9 kg of smuggled ivory product through the mail so far this year.

The Chinese government suspended imports of ivory and all ivory products in 2015 and ended commercial processing and sales of ivory at the end of 2017 as part of its commitment to protecting wild animals.
