ABUJA, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's inflation rose to 11.61 percent year-on-year in October, according to data released Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The consumer price index which measures the inflation rate in the country was higher compared to the 11.24 percent recorded in September.
On a month-on-month basis, the latest NBS report indicated that the index increased by 1.07 percent in October, adding that this is 0.03 percentage points higher than the 1.04 percent recorded in September.
The report said that the rise in the food index was caused by increases in prices of meat, oils and fats, bread and cereals, potatoes, yams and other tubers, fish, and vegetables.
Local experts have said the rise in inflation rate may not be unconnected to the recent border closure by the Nigerian authorities, by which the importation and exporting of goods through the land borders were blocked.
