JAKARTA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China has scored great achievements in its social and economic development, especially in infrastructure construction, tourism and social diversity, Indonesian media reported.
Xinjiang's successful experiences are worth learning and there is great potential for Indonesia and China to further strengthen their cooperation of mutual benefit, said the reports which came after a delegation of Indonesian media visited Xinjiang on Nov. 14-16.
The Indonesian media delegation was very impressed by the booming and diversified tourism sector in Xinjiang, attributing it to the harmonious and stable social circumstances there, according to Indonesia's Metro TV.
Garibaldi Thohir, head of the Indonesian delegation, said he used to think that Xinjiang was a backward region, but this time he witnessed that Xinjiang has good infrastructure facilities and incomes of local people are quite high.
Thohir said he will urge Indonesian government officials to visit Xinjiang and push for mutually beneficial cooperation with the region.
There is great potential for the mutually beneficial cooperation, especially in the tourism sector, he was cited by Indonesian news agency Antara as saying.
