BRATISLAVA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Inter Bratislava's dream of advancing to the second round of the FIBA Europe Cup has been shattered after they were defeated 78-88 by Dutch side ZZ Leiden on Wednesday.
Bratislava started well, leading 13-2 in the fourth minute, though the visitors reacted with an 11-point streak and eventually tied the game. An even battle ensued but Leiden gradually took over and lead by ten at half-time.
Inter returned from the locker room refreshed and determined, improved their defensive performance and took the lead once again seven minutes into the third period.
Leiden responded in a similar manner and forced their opponents to make mistakes. The visitors showed greater skill in the finish, resulting in their third triumph in Group A. Worthy de Jong led Leiden's scoring with 23 points.
Bratislava will conclude its FIBA Europe Cup journey in one week's time against Group A leaders SL Benfica of Portugal.
