MOSCOW, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- One of the most advanced warships of the Russian Navy, Northern Fleet's Admiral Gorshkov frigate, left its base Thursday for the White Sea to test new missile weapons, The Russian Defense Ministry said.

"In the White Sea, the crew of the ship will test new missile weapons, and carry out a number of planned combat training activities," a ministry statement said.

The frigate, the most modern warship of the Northern Fleet, entered service in 2018. It has successfully participated in several drills and round-the-world deployment.

The Admiral Gorshkov was the first Northern Fleet's surface ship to be equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles. Its armament also includes Oniks cruise missile launchers and Poliment-Redut surface-to-air missile systems.
