MONACO, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The 2022 World Athletics Half Marathon Championships will be held in the Chinese city of Yangzhou, as the bid passed a unanimous vote at an council meeting of World Athletics, the world governing body of the sport, formerly known as the IAAF, here on Friday.
Yangzhou will be the second Chinese city in history to host the biannual event, which was first launched in 1992, after Nanning staged the 21.0975-kilometer race in 2010. And the 2022 edition of the event will be held in March.
The eastern Chinese city has gained vast experience of hosting half marathon races as the Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon has been held every spring since 2006 and is currently the only World Athletics gold label half marathon race in China.
