76 migrants rescued in Maltese territorial waters

VALLETTA , Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Some 76 migrants have been rescued from drowning in Maltese territorial waters, local media reported on Friday.

At around 6 p.m. on Nov. 21, NGO Alarm Phone tweeted that the would-be refugees fleeing Libya in an inflatable boat had signaled distress after the boat started to deflate.

Late Friday morning, a group of 76 migrants were brought to Malta after they were picked up by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM).

According to local online media Newsbook, 13 women and two toddlers are amongst the migrants.

Local news website NET News reports that the latest arrival brings the number of migrants rescued by Malta this year to almost 2,200.
