ACCRA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's Eagles will face Botswana's Vultures on Saturday in the inaugural Rugby Africa Cup (RAC) 2020.
The encounter, which will take place at the Nduom sports stadium in Elmina, near Cape Coast, will see the Ghana national 15s team meet their Botswana counterparts.
The match has been dubbed the "Battle of the Birds of Prey" due to the respective teams' logos and names - the Ghana Eagles and Botswana Vultures.
Rugby Africa scrapped the Bronze, Silver and Gold Cups in 2019 due to financial constraints and introduced the new RAC that will give the top 16 nations on the continent to compete for the honors of "African Champion".
Herbert Mensah, President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, said in a message that this maiden RAC match is a significant moment in the history of Rugby Africa.
The winner of the game will proceed to the pool stage of the RAC and will face Zimbabwe and Tunisia in Pool D towards the middle of 2020.
This will be the third rugby Africa tournament hosted by Ghana and should Ghana beat Botswana it will also be the third time the West African country has won a tournament on home soil.
In 2017, Ghana hosted and won the regional challenge.
