WARSAW, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Norway's Daniel-Andre Tande took the spoils in the 2019 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup individual competition in Wisla, Poland on Sunday, making a perfect start of the ski jumping season.
After his first jump, Tande was behind German Karl Geiger, who jumped 127 meters and took the lead. The Polish jumpers were among the favorites, but in the first round they didn't meet the expectations of the home crowd, as 2014 and 2018 Olympic champion Kamil Stoch languished down in a lowly 12th spot.
Stoch's compatriot Piotr Zyla crashed out. Team director and former legendary jumper Adam Malysz revealed that Zyla had briefly lost consciousness, but was not though to be seriously injured.
In the second round, many jumpers still had problems due to tricky conditions on the hill. Tande bested Geiger's effort with his 129-meter jump to win the competition. Slovenia's Anze Lanisek was second.
Home supporters did have something to cheer, as Stoch improved from 12th to 3rd place by the end to take the final spot on the podium.
