ATHENS, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Greece sent condolences as well as rescue teams to Albania on Tuesday after a strong earthquake measuring 6.3-magnitude on the Richter scale hit the country.
Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos conveyed condolences to his Albanian counterpart Ilir Meta, while Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that Greece was ready to provide any assistance needed to the neighboring country, according to e-mailed press releases by their offices.
The Greek government has already dispatched two disaster response teams to assist in the recovery efforts, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.
The quake in Albania was not expected to wake up faults in Greece, Constantinos Papazachos, professor of seismology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, told AMNA.
"We are not facing such a risk. The fault in Durres is a very well known seismic fault and its activity is known from the antiquity," he said. Enditem
