LISBON, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- A senior Portuguese official said on Wednesday that there is no delay in the 5G implementation process in Portugal, Portuguese Lusa News Agency reported.

"From a practical point of view, Portugal is not behind schedule. The European calendar will be respected," said Alberto Souto de Miranda, Assistant Secretary of State and Communications.

He made the remarks at a ceremony marking a pilot test initiated for the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) migration process in Lisbon. The pilot test is a crucial part of the 5G implementation in Portugal.

The country has seen a heated exchange between the telecom regulators and operators on the 5G implementation.

The president of Altice, a telecom operator in Portugal, said on Tuesday that there were "almost irreparable delays" in the implementation of 5G in Portugal, accusing the regulator of inaction.

Joao Cadete de Matos, the President of the National Communications Authority (Anacom), said that operators' criticism of possible delays "has no basis or foundation."
