KABUL, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump paid a surprise visit to Afghanistan on Thursday evening, his first trip to the war-torn country since becoming president.
The presidential plane, the Air Force One, arrived at Bagram Air Field shortly after 8:30 p.m. local time on Thursday.
The U.S. president, after arriving, spent more than three hours at Bagram Air Field and paid a thanksgiving visit to U.S. troops stationed in Afghansitan.
Trump said the United States and Taliban have been engaged in ongoing peace talks, according to media reports.
He also met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
