MAHMOUD-e-RAQI, Afghanistan, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- A Taliban local leader allegedly handling a provincial militants' military committee was killed in a NATO-led coalition drone strike in Afghanistan's eastern Kapisa province, local police said Friday.
The strikes was launched at about 7:00 p.m. local time Thursday, when a drone targeted a Taliban hideout, leaving Qari Nazar Mohammad dead in Alasay district of Kapisa, Shayeq Shurash, provincial police spokesman, told Xinhua.
No civilian was hurt during the overnight bombing, the spokesman said.
The Afghan security forces have recently beefed up security operations against the Taliban militants who have been attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions in the countryside ahead of winter.
The militants, who ruled the country before being ousted in late 2001 and renewed armed insurgency killing government troops as well as civilians, have not made a comment on the report so far.
